This is Bella and she traveled to South Charlotte from Shelby, North Carolina for her pictures. Bella purchased our 1-hour Silver Session which includes one location and added professional makeup. She had decided on Marvin Efird Park for her photoshoot. She came to the NBP studio in Ballantyne and got her makeup done and got into her first outfit. The light was good and we had some extra time, so I decided to do some test shots behind the studio at the Ivy House. This is an exclusive location only available to Natural Bloom clients. So Bella was able to get an extra location! I think these test shots turned out pretty great!
How to pick the right outfits to optimize posing
Bella was an absolute natural! I had so much fun working with her. We got a huge variety of images and a ton of different poses. In fact, I think we hit almost every single pose in my arsenal except for two I can think of now. Does that happen to you after a session? Do you ever think, dang I should have done this, or I forgot to do this, or I should have slowed down? If so, you are not alone!
During consultations I always tell my clients to move around once they try on an outfit they are considering wearing for their senior portraits. It’s important to try out different poses in the outfit to make sure it remains flattering in each pose. The goal is to get a finished gallery of images with a lot of variety. That includes sitting, kneeling, twirling, bending, laying, leaning, etc. Notice all the different poses we were able to get in Bella’s session. If tops are too low cut, dresses are too short, or pants are too tight that can eliminate a lot of poses and angles.
What season do I want
What season/location you choose for your photos will have a big impact on the final outcome. While it’s true, I can get great shots on the side of a grocery store with only a few feet to work in, that isn’t really necessary. Early fall is still lush and green with pockets of autumn color here and there. Check out this mid summer session that is all about sunflowers and wildflowers.
Senior Session Locations
Our second location was my personal favorite at Marvin Efird Park in the Waxhaw-Marvin area just outside Charlotte, North Carolina. During the spring this park is flush with green and for just a couple of short weeks, you can see one blooming wisteria. Year-round you can shoot in the bamboo forest, near the lake, or in one of the rustic fields. Late in the spring, the flowers in the butterfly garden start to bloom. The flower garden is planted and maintained by local volunteer master gardeners. Midsummer to early fall this garden is blossoming with tall lush colorful flowers.
Accessorize and take your outfit from ordinary to extraordinary
Just say yes to the maxi dress!
Bella chose to borrow this red maxi dress from the NBP Style Closet. She had come over prior to her session for a style consult where she tried on multiple outfits.
